Principles and Standards of Effective Management

Best practices in the management business organisations are increasingly implemented in public organisations, including those dealing with security and defence. This lecture introduces the principles of effective /quality/ management according to the ISO 9000 series of standards and analysis of their applicability in managing security and defence organisations. It outlines the concepts of reengineering, transformation, and business process management. The lecture introduces the notion of “smart defence” and outlines current practices and implementation challenges.
